July Update! New Creative, new Perks, new Decorative Items, and more!

Another month has come to an end which means it's time for the End of Month Roundup post!  July saw us hard at work on quite a few new features and changes, so get excited and take a look!

Get ready for a whole new world - a creative one that is!

We are very excited to announce the launch of a new Creative World, or as we're now calling it a new Creative Realm!  The new Creative Realm brings some improvements on the previous world including:

  • More plots for higher ranks, see the Community Ranks Guide Page
  • New Creative specific perks (see below)
  • The highly requested ability to merge your plots together!

The new Creative is powered by a new Plot Management System, while most commands are relatively the same you may find it useful to read over the Creative Guide.

One other change that's worth noting is that while it is still possible to change the biome of your plot this is now a paid perk available through our Online Store, it has also been included in the Monthly Donor Subscription package, and existing subscribers will have access to this feature.

The new Creative Realm will be opened next week, to get there use our new "Main Menu" which allows you to teleport between the Survival and Creative Realms, use /menu to access it.

So what does this Realm stuff I keep hearing about mean?

Up until now New Eden has essentially be one Minecraft Server, and by we mean literally one Java Instance, as such this means that if the server starts to lag or crash everyone is effected regardless of what world you were in.  With the introduction of the new Creative Realm that is changing!

The Creative Realm runs as it's own Minecraft Server, separate from the Survival Realm Minecraft Server, while both being connected by a Proxy that sits between you and the actual Minecraft Servers.  What this means is while initially some things such as /tpa, /list and /msg may not work cross-server, it will allow us to expand, scale more easily, and create a much more reliable experience going forward, with each game mode on its own server.  But because everyone connects through one Proxy at play.neweden.co for the most part it'll look as if it's all just one Minecraft Server.  This is the same technique that large servers use to support thousands of players across many connected servers.

Our goal for New Eden going forward is to start becoming more like a "Hub Network", with many different Minecraft Servers all connected together.  A lot of work has already went into getting us this far, some of which you may have already noticed, e.g. the new layout for the TAB List, but there are things that still need to be done.  As we continue this work and making changes we'll keep you all updated!

New and Updated In-Game and Donor Perks

We have made some changes to the available Perks this included:

  • The perks /back, /fly, /pickup, /stack, /tppos, /workbench have all been changed to only work in the Survival Realm as these Perks aren't relevant for Creative.

We have added new World Edit related Perks to the Creative Realm, these are:

  • //set + //replace - cost 100 credits
  • //cyl + //hcyl - cost 50 credits
  • //sphere + //hsphere - cost 50 credits
  • //pyramid + //hpyramid - cost 50 credits
  • //cut + //copy + //paste - cost 100 credits
  • //flip + //rotate - cost 50 credits

You can view these new Perks by going to the Creative Realm and typing /perks

Heads! Lots and lots of Heads!

We are excited to announce a new use for diamonds, the ability to spend them on over 5,000 different custom Player Heads you can place in the world!

These new heads aren't just your average Player Heads, they are custom textured to look like everything and anything you can imagine including hundreds of animal textures, custom block styles, decorative items, food and drinks, and more.

These custom Heads add a whole new aspect to building and designing, to browse the range of available heads use the /dbh command.  Most cost 10 Diamonds, but some cost only 5, and all heads are free in the Creative Realm.

To get a Head, make sure you have enough diamonds in your inventory, find the head you want, then when you click on it the head will appear in your inventory and the correct number of diamonds will be removed from your inventory.

The Jungle Islands have become our first PvP Zone

We have been beta testing a new PvP zone around the Jungle Islands, just north of the South Continent in the Survival World.

This is the first time on New Eden we've had PvP in the Survival world, so far it's been going well and people seem to be enjoying it.  We'll continue to monitor and tweak things if needed, although note it is not possible to build in the jungle islands.

To get there type /warp pvp or use the teleport pad at spawn!  Note that the spawn point for the islands is PvP free but be careful once you step into the PvP zone, who know what dangers will be lurking in the jungle!

Staff Changes

This month we made some changes to the staff this included:

  • The Marketing Team was disbanded, both Rainbow and Rithrin haven't been very active in their roles recently and the responsibilities of the Marketing Team have been re-allocated between the Management and Community Teams
  • Sayu has joined us as a Moderator in the Community Team, he has been around in the community since the days of Serenity 2, has been very active, contributed a lot over the years, and covers time zones that other staff don't, we're excited to welcome him to the team!
  • The Systems Team has been re-named to the Development Team, as a result we are simplifying the ranks by removing the SysOp and SysDev ranks leaving just Developer.
  • Tjbenator has stepped down from his role in the Systems Team, this was a mutual decision and you may still see him around in Discord from time to time.  As most of you probably know Tjbenator is a key figure in the community, as the owner of SerenityMC and SerenityGames he has given a lot to the community over the years.  He still owns and maintains the SerenityGames.net site, and is working on something for the future!
  • More recently AlmightyWarPig decided to step down from the Staff, this was a personal decision he took as he no longer wanted to be part of the staff, he will be stepping down to Senior and will remain a Monitor, on behalf of New Eden I'd like to thank him for his service as a Moderator and part of the Community Team.

General Updates

More minor and general updates

  • We are now manually running full world generation of the frontier worlds, this means once the generation has completed they will no longer lag the server when people go to them, yay for lag free frontiers again!
  • Some obscure "slash commands" have essentially been removed, this is more of a security measure and won't effect anything people do in-game, but thought it was worth mentioning
  • WorldEdit is much faster now and performs at a more reliable speed, thanks to magic, aka we replaced the Async functionality with a better version, enjoy!

About the changes in perks for creative..

I think /back and /workbench should still be a thing because whenever I test build something in creative and I want to build it in survival I do /back multiple times because the creative plots were messed up because I can not select the specific plot that I would want to go to. I also have the max amount of homes set and I do not want to remove a home for a creative home that I would use for less than a day.

The reason why /workbench should be a thing still is because of Fireworks and Dyed Leather Armor because it requires a crafting table to make in creative and it would be convenient for those that own the perk to use this in the creative world for that reason.

One more thing.. /echest would be an amazing perk to add to some of the perks you can get by voting heart

thanks for the feedback, I'll reply to each point

/back is one of those commands that isn't multi-server compatible, so it wouldn't actually take you between survival and creative in the new setup. Tthe way to achieve this would be using the main menu to jump between survival and creative, doing this you'll also re-join the given server exactly where you left off, so in a way it is like having /back.

Similarly homes are also currently per server, so teachnically you have 10 homes in survival and 10 in creative, again though to access the homes on each server you so need to use the main menu to teleport to that server.

/workbench and /richest we can look at, thanks for the suggestions!
